Maintaining New Tires – Making Sure They Last

April 24, 2024

Once you have a set of new tires installed on your commercial truck or fleet vehicle, you’ll want to get the most out of them. By maintaining them correctly and inspecting them regularly, you’ll keep them on the road for many miles to come. At Camarillo Independent in Camarillo, CA we want you to be able to drive on your tires for miles, so let us help you do just that!

Inspection – Especially with vehicles that see a lot of miles, it’s essential to keep an eye on them. Your tires are constantly moving, and encounter a lot of road debris and hazards along the way. Make sure you’re watching for uneven tread wear, and refer back to the previous segment if you notice one or more of your tires wearing unusually. Really, it’s a good idea to check out the tires during normal inspections, before the vehicle heads out for the day. Look for damage to the sidewall from curbs or debris, uneven wear, debris like screws or nails stuck in the treads, etc. – the sooner you catch it, the less likely it is to become a problem for you. We can repair certain types of damage, and repair faulty components causing your tires to wear out, keeping you on the road.

Maintenance – Tires are easy to maintain, and if you do it regularly and on time, your tires will last much longer than they would otherwise. Check your tire pressures regularly – if they’re over or underinflated, they’ll wear out faster. Also, make sure they’re being rotated at scheduled intervals. The order and frequency with which your tires need to be rotated differ, depending on what you drive – but it’s an essential aspect of ensuring your tires wear evenly and maintain longevity. We'll check it during regularly scheduled maintenance, along with everything else – just let us know if you see something out of the ordinary.
